Individual Project Manager Mentoring and Coaching

Service:   Example:

One-on-one work with an individual project manager intended to increase that individual’s soft (i.e. individual and group interpersonal) PM skills, as well as the person’s application of project management techniques.

Steps:

1. Meeting with the individual’s immediate superior to get perspective on the person’s current performance as a PM.

2. Initial meeting with the individual to get to know one another and to develop a sense of this individual’s skill and personality.

3. Use of the MBTI® Step II and WCI Competency Styles® profile to develop a soft skill preference profile for this person
.
4. Weekly coaching meetings.

Feran was a software development project manager, recently promoted from team lead. Feran has completed his PMI certification. He applies the formal PM techniques vigorously, and is enthusiastic about developing his project team. In the past weeks, project progress reporting has shown that Feran current’s project is falling behind schedule. Roelf is asked to work with him.

Feran is having difficulty managing conflict, both within his project team and and among the project’s clients. Roelf works with Feran for eight weeks. In the first two, they work through Feran’s soft skill preference profile. In the last 6, Roelf coaches Feran through the steps needed to resolve both his team and his client conflicts. The project recovers its lost time and moves forward smoothly.
